El Ojo y la Navaja is a minimal electronics project formed by the musician Erick Arévalo at the beginning of the year 2017 in the State of Mexico.
The project is mainly influenced by the minimal synth and post punk scene of the 80s since that the sound essence of the Project is inspired by the cold and mechanical rhythms made from synthesizers and old and modern rhythm boxes.
The aesthetic of El Ojo y la Navaja is nourished by other artistic manifestations such as cinema and literature since the name of the project is taken from a scene from the classic short film "Un Chien Andaluz" directed by Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí.
El Ojo y La Navaja has two releases, a single "Heart of Darkness" (2017) and an EP titled "Anarquia Coronada" (2018) both released on cassette.
El Ojo y La Navaja was presented in the most important underground forums in Mexico doing a promotion tour of "Anarquia Coronada" in 2018 registering more than 12 cities in Mexico and two in Colombia.
Currently El Ojo y La Navaja has released "Esquizia" an album that has been worked over two years which reflects the musical maturity of the project.
Esquizia is made up of 9 songs plus two extra songs, which are characterized by forceful bass lines, accelerated rhythms that invite to the dance floor, cold synthesized sounds and spectral voices that tell everyday experiences treated from a dark perspective.
This album features two songs in collaboration with two of the most significant projects in the dark underground scene, “Esquizoide” in which Equinoxious collaborates in the synthesizer and percussion sequences, and “Slaves to the storm” created in conjunction with Tearful Moon who composed the lyrics and synthesizer harmonies. Currently "Esquizia" is about to be launched digitally and physically through the Brazilian label Wave Records.
